BABYSIGN is Such a Great Helper!!

家族で動物園に出かけたある日の事。

One day, I went to visit a zoo with my family.

園内のカバの所に立ち寄り

水の中にカバを見つけました。

We stopped at a hippo area.

I found a hippo in the water.

カバは近くで見ると大きい！！

The hippo was so big in a close distance!!

私は1歳の息子に声をかけました、

「ほら！あれがカバだよ！」

I said to my 1-year-old son,

「Look!! That is a hippo!!」

すると、息子は私にサインを見せました。

Then, he showed me his BABYSIGN.

「どこ？」

「Where?」

「ほらあそこ！」

「Over there!」

息子に指差ししながらそう答え、

私はカバに目線を戻しました。

I said back to him with my pointing finger and looked back there again.

するとどうでしょう？！

Guess what?!

カバは水に潜っていなくなって

いたのです。

The hippo was gone.

It went under the water.

息子はカバを見れず、どこにいるのかなぁ？と、何度もサインをしていました。

He missed it and was wondering where it was. He was repeating showing the sign,「Where?」

息子のためにカバが現れるまたのチャンスを待つことにしました。

So, we stayed there to get another chance to see it.

サインがなかったら、息子がカバを見れなかった事に気づかなかった私。

Without the sign, I wouldn’t have noticed he had missed the hippo.

息子のサインは、息子がどうしたいかを明確にしてくれます。

His sign helped me notice and clear what he wanted to tell.

そんな風に分かり合えるから
