The Tiniest Sign with the Biggest Meaning

１歳3ヶ月のベビーサイナーHくん、

ある日のレッスンで、

お茶の入ったベビーマグを手に

私のそばへ来ました。

One day in my lesson,

H-kun, a 13-month-old babysigner, walked up to me with his tea mug in hand.

私が「お茶だね！」とサインと共に

話しかけると、Hくん、あるサインを

返したのです。それは・・・

【おいしい】

When I said, with the sign for “tea,”

“Oh, you brought your tea!”

he signed back to me.

It wasn’t the sign for [tea].

It was [tasty] — “It tastes good!”

それはポンっと、たった1回の

でもはっきりしたサインでした！

He made the sign just once, but it was perfectly clear, full of a little bounce and confidence.

「このお茶美味しいんだよ！」

Hくんの気持ちがこもった勢いのあるサイン。

しっかり伝わったよ！　　

I could almost hear him say,

“This tea is delicious!”

His enthusiastic sign conveyed his

feeling so vividly.

And yes — it came through beautifully.

赤ちゃんでも、目の前の物を、

どう感じているかをちゃんと

伝える事ができる。

Even babies can express

how they feel about the things

in front of them,

clearly and meaningfully,

through their signs.
