A Little Sign, Again and Again

ベビーサイナーYくん、

教室に入るなり何かを見つけて

指差ししました。同時にサインも。

そのサインは・・・

This is a story about a baby signer, Y-kun.
One day, as soon as he entered the classroom, he spotted something and pointed at it—making a sign at the same time.

【とけい】！！

The sign was…
[clock]!!

そうなんです！最近のY君のブームは時計！！
よくよく考えてみると、時計は形も色も大きさも違う！！だから見つけるのが楽しい！！
Y君は、嬉しそうに何度もサインをします！！
先生だけでなく、お友達のママにも。
「ほら、とけいがあるよ！！」と、サインで話しかけます。

That’s right. Recently, clocks have been Y-kun’s favorite!
When you think about it, clocks come in all shapes, colors, and sizes.
That’s what makes them so fun to notice and discover.
Y-kun happily made the [clock] sign again and again.
He showed it not only to me, but also to other moms in the classroom.
It was clear that what he wanted to say was,
“Look! There’s a clock!”

5分過ぎてまた【とけい】、２０分過ぎてまた【とけい】。
伝わるのが嬉しくてまたサインを繰り返し、すごく楽しそう！！

Five minutes passed—and again, [clock].
Twenty minutes later—once more, [clock].
He was so happy that his message was understood that he kept repeating the sign, clearly enjoying the moment.

伝わるって楽しいよね！！
言葉を話し出す前からコミュニケーションがとれるって
素敵な経験ですね！！
Being understood is so much fun, isn’t it?
Being able to communicate even before spoken words begin—
what a wonderful experience that is
